I never considered making chicken wings at home until I purchased an air fryer. Using a deep fryer seemed dangerous and messy, not to mention the amount of oil it would take to use the deep fryer. Chicken wings in an air fryer are easy to make with minimal cleanup. With this recipe, the chicken wings will be seasoned, air-fried, then topped with a special buttery sauce. You can skip the buttery sauce and just use barbeque sauce. The chicken wings will still be delicious, but I recommend using the buttery sauce because it brings a delicious flavor you won't want to miss.

What is an air fryer? An air fryer is small in size and is a convection oven designed for countertops. An air fryer will deep fry food without using oil. Air fryers have fans that circulate hot air at high speed, producing browning and a crisp layer. Most air fryers also have a reheat option and dehydrate option. I will link the ninja air fryer I have and love below.

Benefits of cooking in an air fryer One of the benefits of using an air fryer is its healthier cooking option. Air fryers do not use cooking oils which cut calories by 70-80 percent. Air fryers are safer than deep fryers, they cook faster than an oven and won't heat the kitchen. Clean-up is simple.

What you will need to season the chicken wings

Appx 20-24 chicken wings (thawed)

½ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon minced garlic

2 tablespoons olive oil, or avocado oil

What you will need for the buttery sauce

6 tablespoon butter

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon lemon pepper seasoning

How to make air fryer chicken wings

Place the chicken wings in a large bowl.

Add ½ teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon minced garlic

2 tablespoons olive oil, or avocado oil

Toss the chicken wings and seasoning together until the wings are well coated.

Place the chicken wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer.

Set the air fryer to air fry mode at 390 degrees and cook them for 12 minutes. Flip the chicken wings halfway through. After 12 minutes, cook the wings for another 8 minutes at 400 degrees. This will finish cooking the wings and make them nice and crispy.

While the wings finish cooking, make the special buttery sauce. In a pan combine,

6 tablespoons of butter

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon lemon pepper seasoning

Heat on low until the butter is melted, add the cooked chicken wings to the buttery sauce and enjoy! Brush on barbeque sauce if you’d like but keep in mind this chicken wing recipe is delicious without it. Do you like hot sauce or buffalo wing sauce? Add a little to the butter sauce, the amount would depend on your personal preference.
