It may seem like the initial start-up cost is about the same as purchasing a bottle of store-bought laundry detergent but keep in mind one box of Borax, washing soda, and baking soda will make multiple batches of homemade laundry soap. This recipe makes six cups of laundry soap and calls for three tablespoons per load that's approximately 70 loads of laundry per batch.
Homemade laundry soap has a very light scent. If you like strongly scented soap you can add ½ cup of Purex Crystals to this recipe. This is still saving money because one bottle of Purex will scent about six batches of laundry soap. Keep in mind that Purex Crystals may irritate sensitive skin and you may want to make a separate batch for babies.
