Homemade All-Natural Diaper Rash Cream Recipe

How To Make All-Natural Diaper Rash Cream With Non-Nano Zinc Oxide and Bentonite Clay.

Diaper rash comes on quickly and at times is hard to clear up. Our first thought is store-bought diaper rash ointments that contain unnatural, toxic ingredients. For example, store-brand diaper ointment contains Sorbitan Sesquioleate, according to the cosmetic database Sorbitan Sesquioleate is considered a low hazard ingredient which only notes mild concern regarding organ system and toxicity. Mild concern? There should be no concern.

Any products we put on our body can be absorbed through the skin, why not try homemade diaper cream and bring all-natural, fast healing to your little one. I know it's extremely difficult to avoid all chemicals in our everyday products, but every little bit helps.

What is Non-Nano zinc oxide? Non-Nano Zinc oxide is a food-grade ingredient used to treat diaper rash and minor skin irritations. It blocks UV rays, reduces skin inflammation, and provides a barrier on the skin to protect it from wetness. Non-Nano means its particles are larger than 100 nanometers and won't be absorbed into the body through the skin.

What is Bentonite Clay? Bentonite is an old clay that forms a fine powder when volcanic ash ages. It is known for its ability to absorb moisture and remove toxins. It fights bacteria with its antibacterial properties, is anti-inflammatory, and has healing properties all while soothing irritated skin.

Benefits of Shea Butter for skin- Shea butter is rich in antioxidants, highly moisturizing, and has anti-inflammatory properties. Shea butter may help eczema and is rich in vitamins A and E. Shea butter’s moisturizing and antioxidants work together to help your skin generate healthy new cells.

Benefits of Coconut Oil for skin- Coconut oil is moisturizing, wound healing, antibacterial, and antifungal.

Ingredients for Diaper Rash Cream

½ cup shea butter

4 tablespoons coconut oil

4 tablespoons non-nano zinc oxide

3 tablespoons bentonite clay

Directions

1. Add the shea butter, coconut oil, zinc oxide, and bentonite clay to a heat-safe glass bowl.

2. Create a double boiler by placing the heat-safe boil in a pan of water. Heat the water to a low boil and simmer until all ingredients are melted. Stirring occasionally.

3. Remove from heat and stir well. Pour into a glass mason jar (jelly jars work great) and allow it to cool at room temperature. This diaper cream will stay good in an airtight container for one year.

NOTE If you are using cloth diapers you may want to leave the zinc oxide out of this recipe. Zinc oxide doesn't wash out well of cloth diapers. If you get a build-up over time it could cause absorbency issues. The diaper rash cream will still work very well without it.

Don't forget about the diaper bag. Dollar tree has these cute air-tight containers that are perfect for the diaper bag.

This DIY diaper cream isn't just for babies it will work well on minor skin irritation for kids and adults as well. I hope you are inspired to try this homemade diaper cream and the homemade cleaning products I've linked for you. Small changes make huge impacts, on our health and the environment.
