Are you looking for a fun, easy, and creative activity to entertain your tween at a birthday party or sleepover? Look no further! Homemade Jell-O lip gloss is the perfect solution. Not only is it a blast to make, but it's also a fantastic party favor that your guests can take home. Here's everything you need to know to get started.

With tween skincare being extremely popular right now, this flavored Jell-O lip gloss is perfect for birthday parties or slumber parties. Made with inexpensive and safe ingredients, it’s budget-friendly and you won't have to worry about different substances going onto your child’s skin.

My granddaughter recently celebrated her birthday and for her party, she wanted a sleepover with a few friends and a spa/makeover theme. This was perfect for me because, here at Lia Rose Simply Home, we have fantastic all-natural skincare recipes that are both inexpensive and made with wholesome ingredients. She and her friends had a blast making flavored Jell-O lip gloss, followed by our DIY bath salts for a foot soak and our sugar scrub for their hands. After pampering themselves, they painted their nails and topped off the experience by creating these super easy bath bombs. Each guest got to take home their bath bombs and Jell-O lip gloss as party favors. They had so much fun!

The original recipe I found online for this Jell-O lip gloss involved melting the Vaseline with coconut oil. However, when I tried it, the Jell-O settled at the bottom of the container. So, I experimented by melting just the coconut oil, then adding the Jell-O and stirring it well before adding the Vaseline (not melted). This method worked better; the Jell-O didn't fully dissolve, but its flavor was spread throughout the lip gloss. In contrast, the original method left all the Jell-O at the bottom, resulting in little flavor. Feel free to experiment with both methods.

Why Homemade Jello Lip Gloss?

- Fun and Creative: Making Jell-O lip gloss allows kids to get hands-on and express their creativity.

- Easy to Make: With just a few simple ingredients, this DIY project is straightforward and mess-free.

- Personalized Party Favor: Each guest can customize their Jell-O lip gloss with different flavors and colors, making it a memorable keepsake.

- Safe and Tasty: Jell-O lip gloss is non-toxic and smells delicious, making it safe for tween.

What do I need to make flavored Jell-O lip gloss? To make your own Jell-O lip gloss, you'll need the following:

- Petroleum Jelly: Vaseline is the base for the lip gloss, providing moisture and shine.

- Jell-O Powder: Choose your favorite flavors and colors. Strawberry, cherry, and raspberry are popular choices.

- Solid Coconut Oil: Coconut oil adds extra moisture and helps to firm up the texture of the Jello lip gloss.

- Small Containers: You can find a variety of small containers at Dollar Tree or check out these lip balm containers on Amazon.

- Mixing Bowls and Spoons: For combining ingredients. The lip gloss mixture is a bit oily and requires some effort to wash off. To make cleanup easier, I bought these cute disposable ice cream cups on Amazon. The package came with 50, so there was plenty for the lip gloss and enough left over to serve snacks and ice cream.

- Microwave: To melt the coconut oil and Vaseline.

How To Make Flavored Jell-O Lip Gloss

Note: The amount of ingredients you need may vary depending on the size of the container. You can halve or double the ingredients accordingly. The quantities listed will fill approximately one large container from Dollar Tree or around three small lip balm containers. I prefer using the larger containers so the kids have plenty to take home.

Ingredients 2 tablespoons of Vaseline 2 tablespoons of solid coconut oil

2 tablespoons of Jell-O powder

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prep Your Work Area: Lay down some newspaper or a plastic tablecloth to keep your space clean. Set out all your ingredients and supplies.

2. Melt the Base: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt ( not too hot) two tablespoons of coconut oil. Microwave on high in 20-second intervals, stirring in between, until the mixture is fully melted and smooth but not too hot.

3. Add the Jell-O Powder: Once the coconut oil is melted, add two tablespoons of Jell-O powder to the mixture. Stir thoroughly until the powder is dissolved. The Jell-O may not dissolve completely.

4. Add the Vaseline and mix. Add two tablespoons of Vaseline and mix thoroughly.

5. Pour into Containers: Carefully spoon the mixture into your small containers.

6. Cool and Set: Now it's time to let the lip gloss cool and solidify. Carefully place the Jello containers in the refrigerator for an hour or two. To make handling easier, you can set them on a cookie tray.

Creating DIY Jello lip gloss is more than just a craft; it's an experience that blends creativity, science, and fun. Kids will love the process of making their own lip gloss, and they'll enjoy using a product that's uniquely theirs. This activity is perfect for playdates, birthday parties, or just a rainy day at home. Give it a try, and watch your little ones light up with joy!
