Homemade Vegetable Broth
How to make homemade vegetable broth! This easy one pot vegetable broth is my new favorite kitchen staple. Start saving your veggie scraps because your going to love this. I don’t why it took me so long to do this, but I’m hooked now.
Soups, sauces, stews, and gravy are just a few of the many uses for broth. Store bought broth is costly and high in sodium. Homemade broth tastes so much better. There are three main vegetables you will need, onions celery and carrots. Garlic and a tomato or two are optional but recommend. Tomatoes will add sweetness, a delicious flavor, and color to the broth. A little pepper adds a nice flavor to this homemade broth. I always have half of a pepper left over from a recipe. I go light on peppers their not my favorite but I do like the flavor.
I told you this was easy! So easy there is no exact recipe. Save your vegetable scraps in a ziplock bag in the freezer, when the bag is full simmer the veggies in 12 cups of water for at least 3 hours stirring occasionally. Add any herbs you’d like, I used parsley oregano, and basil. I also threw in a tomato and 3 cloves of garlic. Store the broth in a mason jar or a bowl with a lid in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Can I freeze homemade vegetable broth? Yes! freeze the broth in a ziplock bag. You will love having homemade broth on hand in your freezer. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do!
