Italian Sunday Sauce Recipe

How to make Italian Sunday Sauce.

I can still smell my Grandma's sauce and meatballs cooking, and what a treat it was. Every Sunday we would go to Grandma’s after Mass. While the sauce was simmering on the stove and she was cooking the meatballs we would grab a bowl of sauce and dip Italian bread. I cherish the memories of our Sunday dinners. I'm grateful for the values that quality family time instilled in my life. Times have changed, our lives are busier now, and the pandemic certainly hasn't helped families get together. Maybe we can use this as a reminder of a simpler time, a time when Sundays were for church, family dinner, and a day of rest. You will love this Sunday sauce and meatball recipe.

How do I flavor homemade sauce?

For Italian sauce to taste delicious, you must flavor it with meat. The most common and traditional meats used are Italian sausage, country-style ribs, pork, and meatballs. Brown your Italian sausage, country-style ribs, or pork in a little olive oil until cooked then add to the sauce. Meatballs can be fried or baked and then added to the sauce.

TIP Pork added to the sauce makes a somewhat thinner sauce, you may want to simmer your sauce uncovered. Cooking a soup or sauce uncovered allows water to evaporate resulting in a thicker sauce.

Recipe Grandma's Sunday Sauce

2 cans ( 15oz ) tomato sauce

1 can ( 6oz ) tomato paste

1 can ( 15 oz ) water
